Sam Belzberg, President and CEO

Mr. Belzberg has been highly successful player in the North American financial community for over 50 years. Mr. Belzberg was the founder of First City Financial Corp., which he built into a $7 billion financial institution and is currently the Chairman of Gibralt Capital and Second City Capital Partners.

Mr. Belzberg graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and holds an honorary doctorate from Simon Fraser University. Mr. Belzberg was awarded the Order of Canada in 1989, became an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2002 and received the Governor General of Canada Award in 1992. In 2002 Mr. Belzberg co-founded Action Canada, a national organization committed to building leadership for Canada’s future through an innovative fellowship program.

Jamie Farrar, CA, CBV, CFA - Executive Vice President

Mr. Farrar has over 10 years of experience in the private equity industry. He joined Gibralt Capital as Executive Vice President in 2009. Prior to joining Gibralt Capital, Mr. Farrar spent seven years as Vice President of a family office with a diversified portfolio concentrated in the real estate, hospitality and manufacturing sectors. He also spent three years with TD Capital (now Birch Hill Equity Partners) as an investment professional.

Mr. Farrar received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University and is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Business Valuator and a CFA charterholder.

Ryan Chan, Vice President, Finance and Administration
Gibralt Capital Corporation

has been managing the real estate investment portfolio for Gibralt since 2005. He oversees the financing activities, acquisition and dispositions and is also responsible for the corporate finance, taxation, and cash management. Previously he held different senior roles for real estate developers, including Anthem Properties and Parklane Homes.

Travis Dowle, CFA – Vice President, Investments

Mr. Dowle is Vice President, Investments with Gibralt Capital. Mr. Dowle is responsible for managing the firm’s equity investments. Prior to joining Gibralt Capital, Mr. Dowle was a portfolio manager for one of the world’s largest investment managers, HSBC Global Asset Management.
While at HSBC he was the lead manager for the firm’s global equity strategy offered to Canadian high-net worth clients. Prior to that, Mr. Dowle held various investment and research positions with HSBC and M.K. Wong & Associates.

Mr. Dowle has more than 12 years of experience in the investment industry. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Mr. Dowle is also a past instructor for Stalla’s CFA preparation program on equity valuation and capital markets theory.
